Mariam was a fantastic person — always caring and very positive. I had the pleasure and opportunity to meet several times in Canada and several other countries including Belgium, Italy, Brazil and Sweden.
My long friendship with Mariam and Doug began in 1989 in Kenya on a safari where Mariam’s fluency in swahili was fantastic. I had the opportunity to travel to Canada every second year and enjoy their hospitality in Mississauga and Eagle Lake. We made a lot of trips around Ontario and my trips to other parts of Canada made me a fan of Canada.
The last four years must have been very challenging for Mariam, but she was very patient even as her health worsened the last year.
It is in the fondest memory that I will always remember Mariam. The loss of Mariam is beyond words.
