Mariam, my sister-in-law, was always easy to talk to and ready to talk on so many different subjects. Our favourite chats were usually about car racing and sports. She knew all the players, drivers and teams. She truly enjoyed it all.

One time she called me all excited. She was at a business function and met her favourite Indy Car driver Paul Tracy — a local Toronto lad who won the Indy Car Championship in 2003. She was on cloud nine telling me how she got to sit with him, have a chat and get a picture of them together. She kept saying to me “can you believe it, I had lunch with Paul Tracy!”
Mariam was also an avid fan of hockey, baseball and basketball. Her teams were all Toronto — the Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays and the Raptors. I remember her telling me about the sports pools she would be in at work. She said “Al, I beat out all the sports guys at work in the sports pool!” I’m sure there was a lot of gossip at her work over that.

Mariam always has a great response when I would talk about the “what ifs” in life. She would say “Al, you don’t need to build that bridge”. I always loved that saying and have used it many times. It makes me think of her and smile.
As time goes by, I think of Mariam more and more. “Always think of the good times” she would say to me.
I know Mariam would want all of us to be happy in our lives and focus on the positive.
Live your eternal life almost all the angels created and moving around in the esteral/ethereal world. You won the love of the eternal creator and my only prayer is…always be in our hearts, Ameen.
My dearest sister Malu, every year for your birthday I would call and we would catch up. But this year is different. I miss you so much but I’m happy for you cause you are in heaven. So my dear, here’s to a heavenly happy birthday for you and I know you are looking down at us from up above. Love you always.
